When it was built, the massive Monte Carlo was the world's seventh-largest hotel. It's now somewhat overshadowed by its high-profile, more theme-intensive brethren, but guests who stay here come away quite pleased with the experience. It comes off more as a European casino hotel (before Bellagio usurped that position), fronted by Corinthian colonnades, triumphal arches, splashing fountains, and allegorical (and slightly naughty) statuary, with an entranceway opening onto a bustling casino. A separate entrance in the rear of the hotel leads to a splendid marble-floored, crystal-chandeliered lobby evocative of a European grand hotel. Note that despite all this mock-grandeur, this isn't a bad place for kids, given that guest rooms are accessible without going through the casino, and as you will read below, the resort has a terrific pool area, plus a number of child/family/budget-friendly restaurants. Well-kept, spacious rooms with decent bathrooms (bathtubs are somewhat smaller than at comparably priced hotels) exude a warmly traditional European feel, although the walls are a bit thin. Cable TVs are equipped with hotel-information channels, keno, and pay-movie options. A concierge level for VIPs is on the 32nd floor.
In addition, there is now a branch of the classic Downtown French restaurant Andre's;. There's a large and overly ornate casino, plus a lavish showroom that currently hosts the recommended show by magician Lance Burton.
The numerous water attractions include a 20,000-square-foot pool area, a lushly landscaped miniature water park with a 4,800-square-foot wave pool, a surf pond, waterfalls, and a "river" for tubing. Also notable is Monte Carlo's health club and spa ($14 for 1 day's access, which is cheaper than the fee at most other hotels), offering extensive workout facilities, hot and cool whirlpools, steam and sauna, and numerous services (massage, facials, sea-salt scrubs, seaweed wraps, and more). Workout clothing and toiletries are provided.
Amenities include: Casino; showroom; wedding chapel; 7 restaurants; large wave pool with lazy-river ride and separate kiddie pool; 3 night-lit tennis courts with full services and equipment rental; health club and spa; Jacuzzi; sauna; watersports equipment/rental; video arcade; concierge; tour desk; business center; 24-hr. room service; in-room massage; babysitting; laundry service; dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; executive-level rooms.
